Dana, a rising Hollywood star, has been murdered. Her ghost fills the blues of her days by roaming her house, endlessly rewatching the films she starred in. When night falls, she cuddles or teases —sometimes cruelly— her husband, Forester Hill, a police inspector whom she cannot help but suspect of the murder. In truth, he’s not entirely convinced of his own innocence… On the other side of the United States, in the Texan valley where orange groves stretch as far as the eye can see, a young girl experiences astonishingly accurate premonitions. She foresees, among other things, that a flood will devastate the valley and all the farms within it.

Halloween Blues is a crime series of the kind where meticulously orchestrated crimes unfold, sirens wail through the night, and clues accumulate. Its distinctive feature is a sprinkling of the fantastical and supernatural. Yet, beneath the surface of these overt storylines lie universal, deeper questions — love, grief, betrayal, jealousy, and success. Though they may seem ancillary, these themes actually form the heart of the story. They are addressed with sarcastic, irreverent, and fiercely feminist humor. Indeed, Forester is merely a secondary hero in Halloween Blues. It is the women —old and young, strong and vulnerable, mothers and lovers, seductive or off-putting, both self-assured and hesitant— who lead the dance. Dana, June, Milie, Vera, and Lisa are the true heroines of this narrative, set in an America of the late 1950s, no longer entirely ruled by men.

The idea of drawing from Halloween Blues, the comic created by Kas & Mythic, has haunted us for a long time. The goal is not to transpose each album of this retro noir to the screen in sequence, but rather to draw from the rich well of landscapes, characters, and situations it offers; to exploit this ultra-realistic universe—vividly colored—where the supernatural finds its rightful place; to explore crime, love, and death with disarming humor… In short, to use this multifaceted, malleable material to craft a tightly woven plot within a four-episode series, providing genuine entertainment on multiple levels for diverse audiences.
